- The role of an advocate is to empower you.
- An Advocate will help you express your personal views and needs so that you can get your rights and entitlements.
- An Advocate will also assist you in making informed choices by offering you the information you need
You Advocate will;
- Discuss any issues or concerns you have and help you make informed choices
- Support you at ward rounds and other meetings both in hospital and in the community
- Empower and support you at tribunals, hearings and appeals
- Ensure your complaints are heard
- Help you to access information on medication and treatment issues
- Contact solicitors and other legal services on your behalf
- Where appropriate, refer you to other agencies that may be able to offer assistance
An Advocate will not;
- Make judgements about your situation and cannot make decisions for you or tell you what you should or should not do
Advocacy in Mind (provided by Havant and East Hants Mind) provides a free, independent service for mental health service users living in the Fareham and Gosport localities.
